THE GREAT HIMALAYA TRAIL
A LEGEND UNDER THREAT
Reaching altitudes of 6,000 meters, the Great Himalaya Trail is one of the world’s longest and most difficult trails. Yet for millions of people, it is a lifeline, and an ancient – but increasingly compromised – trade route. German journalist and ultra-marathon-runner Peter Hinze ran the entire length of it – a distance of more than 1,800 kilometers right across Nepal. In his book, he provides insights into the dramatic predicament of this unique mountain region and the people who live there; people who are forced to face up to the challenges of intensifying climate change, encroaching civilization and gigantic road-construction projects, while under threat from their neighbors’ lust for global power.
